Colorado - August 2014

August 16-20 we took an end of summer vacation to Colorado.  We arrived in Denver and stayed there one night before heading to Leadville to stay in a cabin owned by one of Russ' coworkers for the remaining 3 nights.  We had a wonderful time...Colorado is so beautiful!  Upon arrival in Denver, we toured the downtown area, went for a brief swim (the water was cold!), and headed to the Rockies baseball game.  A few minutes before game time, there was an announcement that there had been a water main break outside the stadium, so the game was delayed.  After waiting for an hour, they finally called the game.  The makeup game would be a double header to be played the next night. Unfortunately, we would not be there the next night, so we missed out on seeing the game, but at least we were able to see them warm up and visit the stadium!  The next morning we headed to the state capitol for a quick photo op before heading to Breckenridge for a day of fun.  In Breck we took the gondola to the ski area where we rode the alpine slide, ate lunch, then ended with a game of putt putt.  Next we headed to our cabin which was located in the San Isabel National Forest.  We checked out the cabin and surrounding "neighborhood" before settling in for the night.  The cabin was nice and quaint with a fun tree house that the boys loved.  The next morning we woke up and drove to Vail where we walked around and let the boys get some souvenirs.  We let the boys run around the green area and just as we were about to leave, Toby tripped on the concrete and cut under his chin.  It was hard to tell just how deep the cut was, and without finding an urgent care clinic nearby, we made the decision to seal the cut with some liquid bandage and hope for the best.  Thankfully the cut has healed nicely and was probably not as bad as we initially thought, but it did cause a bit of panic immediately and we scrapped the rest of our Vail visit!  That afternoon we rode the Leadville train.  We barely made it and had to bring our lunch on the train.  We enjoyed the ride and beautiful scenery.  Ryan even found time to take a nap during the ride.  The rest of our time in Colorado was spent checking out the state via scenic drives.  We would pull off the side of the road and enjoy nature.  We went on one "hike" and also visited some hot springs to round out our trip.  The boys loved it there and keep asking when we can go back!  Below are a few of our favorite pictures.  You can view the rest of the nearly 300 pictures we took here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/drussgray/sets/72157646781144525/
