27, 28, 29

May has been a busy month, and the boys recently hit some age milestones.

Kyle turned 5 on the 27th.  He had a fun Memorial Day birthday that started out with opening presents from mom and dad in the morning before heading to the neighborhood pool celebration in the afternoon for lunch and swimming for 3 hours.  Afterwards Nanna and Poppy came over to bring Kyle his presents before we headed to Gigi's for a joint birthday dinner for Kyle and Brent where he was gifted once again.

Toby turned 3 months on the 28th.  I always said 3 months was when the babies became a little more fun...of course this was also when I was usually headed back to work!  I am happy (and lucky!) to get to stay home with Toby post 12 weeks!  He has entered his 4th month by doing lots of talking, smiling, laughing, and he has even taken long morning naps in his crib the past 3 days.  Tuesday and Wednesday were 1 hr 45 minutes and 2 hours today!  Then I had to wake him from a second nap of one hour nap to go get Kyle today.  Maybe we've turned the corner on napping?!  The secret is the white noise and laying on his tummy.  Don't judge, it's what works for naps and I check on him often!  Sometimes he'll take the pacifier, but he isn't the best at keeping it in his mouth.

More tummy time!
All smiles!

Ryan turned 2 1/2 on the 29th.  He spent his day being the typical 2 1/2 year old!  He can be a little toot and has begun to protest his nap more, but he still needs the rest!  He has been falling asleep on his floor since after I leave he climbs out of bed and yells "mooommmmy" for a few minutes before giving it up.  He often wakes up 30 minutes later realizing he is on the floor and will either fall back asleep there or today I put him in his bed and he went right back down.  His new favorite phrase is "what where mommy?"...love that silly boy!

Mother's Day

We had a nice mother's day that started out with mass, then over to Kelly's for brunch to celebrate with Janice.  That afternoon, my sisters and I headed over to my mom's to visit and give her a gift. Russ and the boys made a delicious dinner that night and gave me wine and a plant for our patio.  Russ also did the grocery shopping for me that weekend, which is always a treat.  It was a great weekend!

Thanks to my mother for being the best mother there is!  She is always there for me, when I need just a chat, help, or advice on something.  I wouldn't be the person I am today if it wasn't for her.

Creative Minds

Both Kyle and Ryan came up with some creative ideas lately.

Kyle made his own headlight:

All about Tobin

Time keeps passing and I have documented little about our smallest man in the house.  He is the stereotypical 3rd child I guess!  Toby is a sweet little boy who has a great set of lungs ;) !  I'd be lying if I said I thought he "rarely cried" because sometimes I feel like he cries a lot, and other times, he only fusses when tired.  Russ likes to call him the little tea kettle...when he is hungry or mad, he starts out with a whimper and within a matter of what seems like seconds is into a full blown scream!  I feel like I don't give him enough credit, however, because he is a good baby overall.  After all, babies cry!  As he gets older, he is having longer stretches of entertaining himself.  Last night he played on his playmat for almost a good hour before I moved him to his chair to watch us as we ate dinner.  He is really into looking at his hands now...they are VERY interesting!  He enjoys riding in the car...as long as it is moving...the boy loves motion!  I always say this is all my fault that my kids like to move all the time because I never sit still, so they are used to it from the womb!  Especially Toby since I was constantly walking and not sitting at a desk at work this pregnancy.  Toby has always held his head up well when we are holding him, and now he is doing really well at tummy time.  We have been working on this and making sure he moves his neck to the right.  I had noticed during tummy time when Toby was a little over a month old that his head seemed to be flatter on one side than the other.  I brought it up to the doctor at his 2 month checkup and we talked about how he turned his head to the left.  This was beginning to make his skull shift as the bones are still soft and moving.  She said the head shape was completely correctable without necessarily needing a helmet and to try to take the pressure off of the left side of his head and turn his head to the right and put objects to his right as much as we could.  Like a lightbulb turning on in my head, I remembered when giving birth the doctor first thought he was "sunny side up", but his head was actually twisted around!  That probably explains the knot in the umbilical cord as well.  Toby has a great smile and is talking and looking like he'll laugh a lot lately.  He has been sleeping through the night for a couple of weeks now...since just before 10 weeks old.  He had done it for a few nights around 9 weeks old then I noticed he was moving so much in the cradle that he ended up against the side of it, which was waking him up.  I finally moved him to his own crib and he has done so much better.  There have been a couple of nights that he has woken up around 4 AM; either because he leaked his diaper or he came unswaddled.  He loves his miracle blanket and we still use it overnight and for some naps.  I'm hesitant to stop the swaddling as I like my sleep!!  He sleeps between the 8 o'clock and 10:30 feeding and I wake him up at 10:30 for his last "dream" feed of the night.  I will soon start moving that time backwards, but for now I am enjoying my free time!  Napping, on the other hand, is not the best.  He likes to cat nap, but I know he is fully capable of sleeping longer.  Usually naps are 30-45 minutes long.  In his carrier or on my chest he can take a long one!  I think it is the transition from the restful to active sleep state that gets him!  I look forward to watching Toby grow and interact even more with his brothers.  He gives them a big smile when they engage in conversation with him.  Ryan especially loves him and asks where he is when he doesn't find him.  Kyle is beginning to show more interest as well.

At his 2-month checkup, Toby's stats were as follows:

Weight: 14 lbs. 88th%
Height:  24.5"   98th%

Before he was 2 months, he was one month old, and his stats were as follows:

Weight:  10 lbs. 10 oz. 77th%
Height:   22.25"           87th%

Here are a few pictures of Toby over the months:

Catching up: Part IV

Easter came and went and we had fun doing a few Easter egg hunts.  The boys really enjoyed their Easter baskets and candy.  Ryan, Toby and I had some lazy days at home while Kyle was in school.  We enjoyed the beautiful spring weather with some outdoor play.

Catching up: Part III

In late March, Kyle started t-ball.  He has really enjoyed the weekly games and practices.  A team was organized mostly from kids in our neighborhood, so it has been fun watching the kids play together.

We opened up "Daddy's Barber Shop" on Easter weekend.  Russ has cut the boys' hair twice now and the cuts look great!

We celebrated Henry's 2nd birthday in March and Nolan's 4th birthday in April.  Didn't get any photos of the birthday boys since I never have my camera, but got copies of these crazy guys...

Toby worked on his tummy time and got tired in the process...

These boys are so silly with their pulling objects in trailers!
